Who is Helping Whom?
This week’s edition of “What do you see?” is brought to you by my daughter. My daughter’s hint is that there is a mitzvah (a good deed) going on in this illustration. So, what do you see? Who is helping whom?
A note from Jill, her art teacher:
“My art professor suggested coloring books are the worst thing for a child, because they feel they can’t live up to the pre-made/adult created outline. That they come up with such interesting and wonderful things when given ‘permission’ to explore. ”
Daryl says
Happy Birthday, Leora .. apparently we share the friendship of Mojo as well as a birthday!
The Jewish Side says
I see a girl carrying a knapsack
And I like the idea of children drawing free style without coloring books.

I'm not sure who is doing the good dead, but I like the smile and hair...Funny..my friend takes care of her 98 year old mother who has cognitive problems and it's like going back to nursery school as she does the same kinds of activities including coloring in very simple coloring books...
Jill says
To me it looks like a woman handing a baby to another woman. Is she helping care for the child? Am I totally off on this one?
Now I'm really curious!
Looking forward to hearing the story behind this piece.
Mrs. S. says
Could one of the girls be delivering Mishloach Manot (a Purim food basket) to the other?
Ilana-Davita says
My first thought also went to Mishlach Manot and then I saw a baby too. So I'm dumbfounded.
teresa says
A lady is holding a baby and has dropped her bag. The other lady passing by helps the lady with the baby, by picking up the bag and handing it to her.
Leora says
Teresa, interesting observation (and welcome to my blog). That's not what my daughter claims is going on, but I like the idea.
Leora says
Another hint: you have to think like a six-year-old girl. The people in the drawing (there are 2) are her age. It's not a baby or a bag in the middle.
The Jewish Side says
Leora: it wasn't a nap sack/back pack/book bag?
Leora says
Jewish Side, nope, none of those! Think little girl. What is important to a little girl?
The Jewish Side says
ahh is it a bag of snack? are they sharing?
Ilana-Davita says
Is one girl lending her friend her doll?
Leora says
Ilana-Davita, you are getting closer. I thought it was a doll, but my daughter corrected me.
Jew Wishes says
Ballet slippers, one girl is giving another her ballet shoes?
Ilana-Davita says
Or lending her a tutu?
Leora says
Ilana-Davita, you are so close! It has nothing to do with ballet.
The Jewish Side says
o, it's a girls or dolls dress?
Ilana-Davita says
A princess's dress or outfit?
Leora says
Some kind of dress. My daughter is handing a poor girl a new dress, because the poor girl (the blonde) doesn't have one.
The Jewish Side says
ahh that's very sweet of her!
Jew Wishes says
How very sweet of your daughter!
Please leave a comment! I love to hear from you.
