STAC Receives EPA Award, May 2000

STAC getting an EPA award for the Native Plant Reserve
EPA award

Representatives from Highland Park's Shade Tree Advisory Committee received one of the US EPA Region II's 2000 Environmental Quality Awards in a Spring 2000 ceremony at regional EPA headquarters in New York City. The award was presented by Sen. Frank Lautenberg and US EPA administrators and was received on STAC's behalf by (on the left) Arnold Henderson and Ruth Bowers and (on the right) Aileen Coffey.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (Region II) awarded Highland Park's Native Plant Reserve one of its Year 2000 Environmental Quality Awards. Our project was nominated for the award by Middlesex County. We share the EPA honor with projects that were larger (by hundreds of acres) or in wilder landscapes, but we think we were singled out as the kind of small project that can have a good impact in the tight spaces of urban cores, where open space may be needed the most. STAC members traveled to regional EPA headquarters in New York City to receive the award plaque.
